This year, the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival begins January 29 and so I thought, what better way to usher in the new year than with some adorable photos of dogs in costumes?
When I first launched my “Double Happiness” dog portrait promotion1 in 2023, I went with a photo booth concept. With some light and furniture upgrades, I’m really happy with how it’s evolved. At the heart of it, Double Happiness is a celebration of dogs, happiness, and what happens when you bring two dogs together—double the joy (or double the trouble, depending on how you look at it)!
By the time Christmas and New Years comes around, I always find it a little hard to feel festive. Daylight is scarce, it’s cold and rainy, and photography bookings take a dip as people prefer to do outdoor shoots in warmer temperatures. Since Christmas is also not something that my family celebrated growing up, I don’t always feel a connection to it. So I love that my Chinese heritage allows me to celebrate the new year “once more, with feeling!”
This year I even upped the ante by finding Duke a lion dance costume. I decided I had to surprise my mom. At first glance she smiled, then asked, “How much?” Even after I admitted it cost me $20, she said it was a good deal! That means she really liked it, so that was $20 well spent in my books.
